Error 4043: Command aborted

I have a new StorageWorks DAT 160 drive running in an SBS2008 server. After initially setting up Dataprotector Express I am unable to run a backup. I get the Error 4043: Command aborted and the tape ejects. I have the backup configured to autoformat. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
