Error: the device, \device\tape0, has a bad block

I receive this as a Event ID 7 on a MS SBS 4.0 Server. Anyone know if this is a tape (no libraries, tapes or any other reference) with that name. Using Veritas Backup Exec v7.3.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Error: the device, \device\tape0, has a bad block

Michael,

Your Windows installation is basically telling you that during the backup (or the restore) it encountered a problem (usually a medium related reported by the drive) which is reported my MS as a bad block.

what to do:
- try a new tape and see if the issue persists
- try cleaning the drive with a cleaning tape and retry the operation.

if these steps fail:
- Download the HP library and Tapetools diagnostics application (here: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software1/co529/co-1049-2/ltt_27_eng.exe)

when installed run the read and write tests available for your tape device. If all this fails, you may want to contact HP support and send them the support ticket you can generate with this same application.

Sorry, no magic answer but best of luck anyway.
