Failed backup after not inserting second tape

When - during backup - backup-software asks for a second tape to be inserted and this was not done, is the job then totaly failed? Can i still use the first tape to restore files that were backed-up on it??

Does anyone know??

Re: Failed backup after not inserting second tape

Hello,

I don't really know whether it's a yes or no, but I wouldn't care less if I were you. When you do backup, you want to make sure that everything is backed up, right? You have half-a-backup there, that is not piece of mind. If you manage to restore from it, you'll restore half the data... not very helpful.

Restart the backup and give it the 2 tapes that it needs so much.

Some backup products will still allow you to restore from the partial backup, but performing a re-catalogue might be difficult/impossible.
In real-life, the data you need to restore is often on the second, non-existent backup tape...
