Firmware update for tape drives

Hi all.

I was looking for a firmware update for my newly acquired HP Ultrium 1760 SAS tape drive, and found the tape firmware update package for Windows (cp009550.exe), but couldn't download it.

Download page is http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?swItem=MTX-e8cbe5046dfa445eb318ad7926 and the file is supposed to be found at ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib2/software1/sc-windows/p662752989/v48931/cp009550.exe but doesn't show up in the directory.

The parent directory (v48931) was las modified 4 days ago...
Any reason why HP may have withdrawn this file ?
Has there been any problem reported with recent tape firmwares ?

Try upgrading the firmware using LTT

Re: Firmware update for tape drives

Melay, the recommended way to upgrade the firmware is always using Library and Tape Tools.
You can select get files from web, and it will automatically connect and download latest drivers to your local machine.

Re: Firmware update for tape drives

LTT 4.5 did not recognise the 1760 SAS tape drive correctly, that's why I jumped to the tape drive firmware package for Windows.
I've just updated to LTT 4.6, and now it sees the drive correcly.

But while the tape firmware page above states that the 1760 SAS drive's firmware was recently updated (30 Sep 2008), LTT points to an old firmware dating back from 07/2007, probably even before the drive went to market.

Well, the drive is working all right any way.
I'll just forget about it for now and check back later.
Or maybe try with the firmware update CD.

Thanks guys.
Torsten.

Re: Firmware update for tape drives

LTT knows about old firmware because it compares versions. Why not let LTT download the newer version and install?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Firmware update for tape drives

HP has just uploaded the firmware updater back to its FTP directory.
Got it and flashed my drive from U24D to U28D.

Torsten you don't get it.
LTT only knows (at least right now) about the old firmware dating back from 2007, no matter how you try.
The "Get files from web" function won't download the newer 1760 firmware.
