HP 20GB Backup drive (Ext.)

I bought this drive and have it installed, but when I try to do a backup, it tells me the tape is wrong and asks for another one, than it tells me it has an error. I have tried with 4 brandnew tapes and all 4 have the same results. Is this a faulty drive? It does not seem likely that all 4 tapes are bad. Troubleshooting the drive comes out: drive is working properly. What am I missing or doing wrong.

What kind of tapes are you using?

Ar they Travan 20GB tapes?

Yes Imation Travan NS 20GB tapes. Can not find HP tapes in my area.
