HP 88780B Tape drive

We have one of these drives that's been shelved for a very long time and have found tapes in storage that we need to get data off of.

In searching around the Internet and our office we find no software drivers for this hardware. Is there anyone that can point us in the right direction for drivers for this machine? I currently have it hooked up to a Windows 2000 Server but that can change easily if necessary. Thanks!

Re: HP 88780B Tape drive

This is the old 9 Track Tape Drive, right?

Beforewarned: This unit is may be HVD, so don't plug it into any normal HBA. You will need to look at the interface and determine if you need an addapter that either can convert the PERTEC interface or is native to it. If it is one of the models that has the SE interface, you may be ok.

I am not to sure what this device will identify as to Windows... what does it say?

Yes this is one of the old 9 track drives and it's an SE connected drive. W2k shows it as an unknown device with the label "HP 88780" on it.
