HP 8GB does not get past "Reading start of media"

Hi,

Quite often, when I try to perform a backup, the window comes up saying "Reading start of media", the tape drive whirrs a bit and then no more happens.

Just the elapsed time continues to increment.

Does anybody have any ideas about this problem.

Richard,
I assume you are using Colorado BackupII. In the amin menu, choose Tools/media/retension. After that run the Initialize command in the same drop down menu. See if that that helps.
