HP C1537A Error Reported: Bad Data
Hi
A few months ago our Tape drive began playing up. It only seemed to backup to certain tapes. I thought it was a problem with the tapes so bought new ones, with no effect. Now it won't backup to any tapes. I've tried using the cleaning tape but that doesn't seem to make any difference. The error reported is as follows:
"The device reported an error on a tape request to write data to media Error Reported:Bad Data"
I've tried backing up to a file instead to test the data and software and it works fine so I can only think its a problem with the drive. No settings have been changed on the drive itself.
I've attached the service ticket.
Any help is much appreciated
Thanks
Matt

Re: HP C1537A Error Reported: Bad Data
Hi Matt,
if you use PCs or hpux servers/workstations try to change dip switches to default: all on except 3rd is off.
Try another SCSI card, cable and terminator. I saw cases when SCSI bus quality caused this behavior.
Clean drives regularly: after each 5 full backups or 20 tape pulling hours.
Support ticket shows that your drive may require recalibration. Please connect drive to windows OS PC, download recalibration script using LTT and run it on the drive
