HP Colorado 14GB Tape Drive - Cyclic Redundancy

I cannot get the drive to back up. Sometimes it does not complete the back-up and gives a "Cyclic Redundancy" Error. Other times it will complete the back-up but fails to complete the Verify.
Does anyone have any advice, besides to buy a new storage unit?

Steven, you don't mention what O/S your using but I suspect you have too many things running in the back ground and do not have enough resources for the tape drive. I assume you are using Colorado Back II? What version?

This is running on Windows NT on a network server. The backup runs during the night when all of the clients are either off or ilde.
We are using Veritas Backup Exec V7 as the software.
I dont think there is anything else running in the background while this is backing up.

CRC (cyclic redundancy check) is the method by which a system can verify that data has been transferred okay. It gets embedded into each packet of data.

In my experience, it's often not the hardware involved but something to do with the software or the communication mechanism.

Go for the easy stuff first like cables, checking for bent pins and proper seating etc.
