HP Colorado 14GB Travan on Win 2000 Pro

Windows 2000 Pro doesn't see the tape drive (sometimes it does but rare). I get the message "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Tape0." source is qic157.sys

The drive is connected as a slave on Secondary IDE; the master on that IDE is 2GB hard disk. Primary IDE has 13GB HD and CD-ROM.

Any help would be appreciated.
