HP DAT 72 shows low SCSI Speed (20Mbps)

Hi,
I have 2 HP DAT72 SCSI Tapes,
one connected to a 'HP 64-Bit/133MHz PCI-X 2Ch Ultra320 HBA' in a Proliant ML370G3 Server and the other connected to the onboard Ultra-2 LSI Logic Controller in a Netserver E-800.
The Tape Drive is the only device connected to the HBA`s.
Both controller show a connection speed of only 20 Mbps (16-bit width) ???
Shouldn┬┤t it be 160 Mbps in the Proliant server and 80 Mbps in the Netserver ?
Why ONLY 20 Mbps ?
Both controller are terminated well.

Any ideas what┬┤s going wrong ?

Many thanks and kind regards,
Martin

where/what are you seeing/looking at that shows you the speed?

Re: HP DAT 72 shows low SCSI Speed (20Mbps)

Thanks for your reply!

I`m looking at the connection speed at controllers boot time and second on the proliant server in HPSIM under 'SCSI Bus Information' of the controller, showing me:
Phys. Width: 16, Curr. Width: 16, Curr. Speed: 20 Mbps. Both DAT72 seem to be connected with the same speed on totally different servers with diff. HBA├В┬┤s ...
I├В┬┤ve connected one of the tapes to an Netraid-2M (Ultra 3 HBA) in a normal PC for testing purpose and what a surprise, the connection speed is shown as Ultra3 (U160).
I am really helpless.

Kind regards,
Martin

i would suggest tape tools, download, install and run (off the top of my head), sounds interesting

HP Library and Tape Tools is installed on both server, but how does LTT bring me towards the solution of this problem?
Testing the tapes does not show any errors, at the most some warnings.
Thanks, Martin

Re: HP DAT 72 shows low SCSI Speed (20Mbps)

have you run a drive assessment test?

Re: HP DAT 72 shows low SCSI Speed (20Mbps)

Yes, and I have done it once more to show you the exact result message:
'Test execution completed successfully'.
I think the drive assessment test does not check connection speed.
Still helpless, any other ideas ?

Re: HP DAT 72 shows low SCSI Speed (20Mbps)

are there any options in the scsi controller bios's?

are the scsi controllers listed on the supported scsi controller for tape drive list?

Re: HP DAT 72 shows low SCSI Speed (20Mbps)

No options for the 'HP 64-Bit/133MHz PCI-X 2Ch Ultra320 HBA' and a few options for the onboard controller in the netserver, but these options are standard.

Yes, at least the HP controller is listed as supported controller in ML370 as controller for connecting tapes.

Re: HP DAT 72 shows low SCSI Speed (20Mbps)

is the scsi controller the only device on that particular pci bus? ie: slots 1&2=bus2 3&4=bus10
