excellent, this is exactly what I asked for, however on reading it I have discovered that I should have asked for

"HP DDS Technical Manual Volume 3" for the C1537A DDS3 and C1537A DDS2 DAT drives.

The data I am after is how to decode the scsi mode sense fields, particularly any HP/drive specific bits.

is there a copy of this manual in the same place as you found the last one?
