HP DPE Single Server gives error when starting backup

Hi,

Since 2 weeks, we are busy installing and configuring a new DL 380G6 with a Storageworks 1/8. It runs on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64.
With this tapelibrary, there's a softwarepackage provided what's needed to backup to tape, called HP Data Protector Express Single Server Edition.

The Software was installed without any problems, but when we want to start a test-backup to see if it's running fine, the following error shows up:
Error 2: End of Data.

The strange thing is, that all other commands (add tape, format tape etc) works without any trouble.

Is there anyone who can help us further solving this problem?

we have the same problem.
The DPE does not work on W2k8r2 and we are waiting for an updated software from HP.

This is what HP Support told me:
Q1: Would like if you can confirm if DPX 4.0 should or should not work in w2008 r2 ?
A1: Yes as per attached Oct 2009 released DPX compatibility Matrix Windows 2008 R2 is not compatible with DPX 4.x

Q2: if its not compatible, then is there a new version coming ?
A2: A later Version of DPX 5.x is getting released in couple of months , as per the info available Windows 2008 R2 is supported by that.

So, right now there is no solution to this; we have to buy some working product...

Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear. Almost all of the backupproducts have the same problem, also the Symantec BackupExec doesn't work that well on R2. The new version (BackupExec 2010), what will be released in Feb. 2010, will support Windows Server 2008 x64 R2.

Only the CA ArcServ backup package does support R2 right now.
