HP DataProtector Express- Client Error ( 1639: Invalid Commannd Line Argument)
Hi All,
I have this error while am trying to install a trail version of HP Data Protector desktop and laptop option
Error :
1639: Invalid Commannd Line Argument, Consult the windows installer SDK For detail command line help.
Failed to install with error code 1639
I had tried the following steps, but in-vain.
1. Please set the windows installer service as "manual"
( start-->run-->services.msc) in windows services
Now , try running the installation of client software, it prompts same
error or some different erroes like Error: 997, then do the following
2.Run "msiexec /regserver" from a command line, otherwise run
sfc /scannow and then "msiexec /regserver". The MSI engine actually has
two processes - one runs as a service, and the other runs under the user
account. It's possible that one (or both) of these are no longer loading
properly, or .dll's have become corrupt, or registry settings for the
service are invalid
NOTE: you might need to have windows XP installation CD in the CD-drive
before running the SFC /scannow , since the missing files will be copied
from the CD to the respective files/folder
3. try to run the windows installer cleanup utility and remove the
associated files for the HP Data protector , please refer the below link
and you can download " Cleanup Utility" from the below link
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 ( Please do read it throughly)
4. If nothing helps, please re-register/re-install the windows installer
by using steps from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315346
5. Atlast i tried these steps

Re: HP DataProtector Express- Client Error ( 1639: Invalid Commannd Line Argument)
The error message is from the Microsoft installer and is usually a communication error. Make sure all of the prerequisites are met including a successfull installation of .net 2.0 or higher.
