HP Library &Tape Tools and HPC1533A

Hi
I am trying to update the firmware on my ancient HP C1553a DDS2 tape drive. I am using the HP Library and Tape Tools program.

When I attempt to update my firmware I get the error: "There is no matching firmware file for this device, it cannot be selected". However, when I look at the list of local firmware files, I do indeed see a listing for "DDS Drive (C1533A)".

What is the problem here? Is this a matter of overriding the mapping?

Cheers
Hugh

Re: HP Library &Tape Tools and HPC1533A

I would suggest you run SYSDIAG and get the version level of the firmware currently loaded on the drive. If the drive has the latest firmware you would also be unable to load the firmware.

Re: HP Library &Tape Tools and HPC1533A

Sorry - I should have explained my situation better. I am using windows 2000 and tape tools.

Currently, according to tape tools the firmware on my drive is 9406! So I want to get it up to the latest one (A907 I think).

In Tape Tools, in the Identify section, my product is referenced as "HP C1533A" (this is the correct model number). When I click on the firmware button, a box pops up to inform me that I have no compatible firmware in my current folder, and to go and download some etc. When I click on the "Get Firmware from Web" button it tells me that I have a local copy of the latest firmware for my device already on my hard drive!

So I go back to the Update Firmware tab, and click on the check box near my drive (here it is listed as "Drive (C1533A)"). After I click the check box, another message comes up saying that there is no matching firmware....

Any solutions?

thanks in advance

Oh I forgot one thing:

What is sysdiag? I'm running win2000 so is this not apart of it??

Hugh:

I have responded to your other entry in the general section of the forum. I believe TapeTools is incompatible with WIN2K and you'll need to move your tape drive to upgrade the BIOS or (uck!) dual-boot.
Make a great day!

Re: HP Library &Tape Tools and HPC1533A

Hi,

HP Library and Tape Tools (98/NT/2000), is supported at w2k and available at: http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hpsurestor9686_swen.html.
However there are two c1533a products (c1553a is with an autolader), the old series use 9608 as firmware and the new series, better known as SureStore dat8, is using A708 or A907. When I try to select 9608 it says "wrong personality" and I'm running a SureStore dat8.

Hope this helps.

Mark:

For some reason, I couldn't find the Tape Tools at the URL you suggested. I did, however, find it at:

Make a great day!
