What type of backup utility you are using?
Where U will get this error.

Re: HP MSL4048 Tape Drive
Any related messages in syslog?
Probably the best way is to use LTT from http://www.hp.com/support/tapetools and pull a support ticket from the library. Open a support call and pass the ticket.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP MSL4048 Tape Drive
Thanks for looking in the issue, the utility that we use for backup is data protector management, running off windows server 2003. It could be the software that does it, since i tried to move the tape to the mailslot, neither one of the mailslot would take them. and when exit out the data protector tool, i recieved a memory referenced error. Not sure if it is the data protector did not synch to the tape drive or something. NOTE: all connection has been checked and confirmed good.
