HP StorageWorks MSL4048 Tape Library + Smantec backup exec 11d for windows servers
Hello.
The question concerns the organization of tape copying. There is a tape library (HP StorageWorks MSL4048 Tape Library), on optics it is connected in an optical switch and to it is appointed static IP. There is a server which on optics too is connected in the same optical switch. On the server program Smantec backup exec 11d for windows servers is established.
Question: Why Smantec backup exec 11d for windows servers can not see tape library?

Re: HP StorageWorks MSL4048 Tape Library + Smantec backup exec 11d for windows servers
There could be several reasons for Symantec not seeing the library.
- Does Windows see the library? In Device Manager, you should see a Medium Changer, pluse one entry for each tape drive in the system, under "tape drives". If Windows does not see the library, check zoning on the Fibre Channel switch, and presentation to the server in the tape library GUI.
- Can you connect to the tape library GUI by typing its IP address in your web browser?
- Can HP's Library and Tape Tools (free download from http://www.hp.com/support/TapeTools ) see the library and tape drive(s)?
- Since you're going through a Fibre Channel switch, you might need to have the BackupExex Shared Storage or SAN option -- this allows the tape library to be shared without contention by more than one server. If you don't need this functionality, consider connecting the Fibre Channel from the library directly to the server (and this is a good diagnostic step, if the server cannot see the library through the FC Switch).
