HP Ultrium 232 Tape drive (DW065B) + 100/200 GB Tape Media (C7971A )
I am unable to take backup with hardware compression. Drive ejects a 100/200GB tape media & when new tape is replaced it runs but stops at 94 GB and asks for a new tape.
(setting: hardware compression selected and s/w comp."none" in Data Protector Express)
Background: Proliant ML350-G5 server + Data Protector Express 3.5 (Single server edi).
Type of data for backup: Video files, recorded by Milestone X-protect video management software (video format: proprietary)
Backup time: 94 GB took 18 hours in H/w compression mode but compression did not take place. (type of data : indicated above)
Need of the hour: Store up to 200 GB (Compressed) in 100/200GB Tape media (C7971A)

It is my understanding that many video formats are not very good compressable. In that case the tape drive's compressor can't do any wonders. Have you tried to backup other file types?
And it looks like there is another problem with the environment: The Ultrium-232 tape drive can write up to 57GB per hour(!), uncompressed.

Thank you Uwe for your response. I do not have much of the other data in the same server but I will try as suggested by u. I need a HP tech to confirm this fact, so that I could take it to my customer and adopt uncompressed backup.
The time taken by the LTO1 drive is also my concern, hoping somebody could throw a light.

you can use LTT for the test
use the system perf test to generate 180 GB of data with 2:1 compression ration
then use the backup application to store them on the tape
this should confirm the drive is working fine
I agree with Uwe, Video Files are not compressible, as they are already shrinked
And running compression on those files cause them to grow due to the overhead
