HP WORM Devices C1113J and LVD SCSI Controller?
we are using a HP ex1200 jukebox with 4 x C1113J (5,2 GB) optical devices for our archive solution with ixos. On the library I can switch the controller between single ended
scsi (SE) and HVD scsi (differentiel).
Has anyone experiences if the drives are also working with an upgraded SE scsi bus like ultra160/ LVD scsi or ultra320/ LVD scsi?
Thanks in advance.
Stefan

Re: HP WORM Devices C1113J and LVD SCSI Controller?
You have to take some precautions with cable and terminators because the ultra160 is "Wide"
Anyway you will get any vantage in using these new controllers. I suggest to gound a 2940 model for your connection

Is it possile to change/set the SCSI address
for the individual drives? The drives I have have the requisite jumpers but setting has no effect. The drives are Sony SMO-f551
built for hp and are apparently somewhat different from the SONY OEM.

Re: HP WORM Devices C1113J and LVD SCSI Controller?
We've got a very similar setup for IXOS:
ext_bus 5 0/9/0/0 c720 CLAIMED INTERFACE SCSI C87x Fast Wide Differential
target 22 0/9/0/0.4 tgt CLAIMED DEVICE
disk 27 0/9/0/0.4.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP C1113J
/dev/dsk/c5t4d0 /dev/rdsk/c5t4d0
target 23 0/9/0/0.5 tgt CLAIMED DEVICE
disk 28 0/9/0/0.5.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP C1113J
/dev/dsk/c5t5d0 /dev/rdsk/c5t5d0
target 24 0/9/0/0.6 tgt CLAIMED DEVICE
autoch 2 0/9/0/0.6.0 schgr CLAIMED DEVICE HP C1160J
/dev/rac/c5t6d0
target 25 0/9/0/0.7 tgt CLAIMED DEVICE
The alterative (looking forward) is putting an HP SCSI-FC bridge in between, so that the jukebox gets attached with either HVD or SE, and the host connects via fc like in the following example:
fcp 16 0/5/0/0.3 fcp CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Domain
ext_bus 23 0/5/0/0.3.48.255.0 fcpdev CLAIMED INTERFACE FCP Device Interface
target 11 0/5/0/0.3.48.255.0.0 tgt CLAIMED DEVICE
disk 23 0/5/0/0.3.48.255.0.0.2 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP C1113M
/dev/dsk/c23t0d2 /dev/rdsk/c23t0d2
disk 24 0/5/0/0.3.48.255.0.0.3 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP C1113M
/dev/dsk/c23t0d3 /dev/rdsk/c23t0d3
disk 25 0/5/0/0.3.48.255.0.0.4 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP C1113M
/dev/dsk/c23t0d4 /dev/rdsk/c23t0d4
disk 26 0/5/0/0.3.48.255.0.0.5 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP C1113M
/dev/dsk/c23t0d5 /dev/rdsk/c23t0d5
unknown -1 0/5/0/0.3.48.255.0.0.6 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN HP C1160M
(don't ask me why the last dev is unclaimed, ok?)

Re: HP WORM Devices C1113J and LVD SCSI Controller?
I should have asked... :)
What server and operating system are You using to connect?
After looking into the 'larger boxes category' I'd strongly advise You to buy an LSI logic adapter instead of adaptec.
To my experience, they're much more reliable.
(the also get OEM'd into alpha,hp9000,rs/6000 and sgi servers, You get the picture...)
