trying to find a service or maintenance manual. Checked the HP online manuals. Checked several other online PDF manual sites. Called HP, and they never heard of this device. It is a 9-track reel to reel recorder using 1/2 inch tapes connected to a VAX6610 via SCSI. We have many of these recorders to maintain in Saudi Arabia, but no detailed manuals covering the inside of the device.
Does anybody know where I can find these manuals.

If my memory serves me correctly, these were a version of the 7980A tape drive that were sold with SCSI interfaces, rather than HPIB, for hooking up to servers other than HP, when HP still used HPIB as a standard Tape Drive connection. Youc could ask fo that model, and then it is just the connectivity that is different if I recall.
