then, install LTT http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ltt/index.html?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
this is the diagnostic tool to troubleshoot the drive

Re: Help!!The driver detected a controller error on \device\tape0
could you please be more specific about the DLT1.
Is it SureStore or StorageWorks. Is it standalone, internal or external, or in library. Product number will do.
Was it working before or it is a new installation? remember that array controllers not always support tape drives.
I don├В┬┤t think this is the problem, but just in case go ahead and check the block size from veritas.
Check the driver/firmware for the controller too.
... and absolutely I second Marino., get HP StorageWorks Library & Tape Tools to diagnosis and update firmwares

Re: Help!!The driver detected a controller error on \device\tape0
Thanks much for the responses.
I really think this tape drive finally
just gave out. I'm now looking at the Quantum
Dlt Vs160 80/160. (Any of you know of this unit and its reliability?)
My current drive is an Internal Surestore
Prod: c7484A. Its been running fine for the past 4.5 years.
Firmware: The disk array firmware was last updated around 08-2005. I updated the firmware for the tape drive this morning.
I also ran the L&TT diagnostic program and my hard drive leds started freaking out so I aborted it.
Now when I insert a tape, the drive is really making some weird noises and the tape cartridge also sounds really weird.
My tape drive now has disappeared in the Array??
Thanks Again and more to come.

Re: Help!!The driver detected a controller error on \device\tape0
I just received my new quantum vs160 drive
with a separate controller. Will be installing either tonight or Sat. morning.
Just wanted to thank the both of you for your responses and suggestions.
How do I assign points for your answers?
Thanks again

How Do I Assign Points?
Only the question author can assign points to a given response. If you submit a question or new topic and another member replies to it, you will see a dropdown menu of points next to the reply (you must be logged in to see the menu). Select the point value and then click the "submit points" button at the bottom of the thread.
Good luck

Re: Help!!The driver detected a controller error on \device\tape0
Just getting around assigning points.
I've got my new tape dr and controller installed. So far so good. Unfortunately
I'm still using BackupExec 8.5. on this particular server.
Maybe it wont cost to much to repair
my old tape dr. Hate to see all my 40/80
tapes collect dust.
Thanks again
