How do I write to an LTFS index

Our post department just set up an LTO5 StorageWorks 3000 and we have very specific requirements for our LTO archives from the network.  We're required to include an XML file in the index partition of the LTO, but I can't seem to find how to write to the index partition.

 

We're on Mac OS 10.6.

 

Any suggestions?
