How to enable compression in MSL 4048

Hi!

I'm using MSL 4048 tape library with 2 LTO-4 FC drives. Window 2008 server and Netbackup from software side.

Since mostly it's recommended to use tape compression I wondered how to make sure that my backups are hw-compressed. And how to change it?

That is a choice you should do from the backup application

Re: How to enable compression in MSL 4048

Hi,
I'm using (old) MSL5030 with LTO-1.
I can access the Lib./Drives with a browser and at the Drives State I can see that the Compression is on. I think this the Default.

Re: How to enable compression in MSL 4048

Some NetBackup manuals are suggesting that hardware vendor should point me to right direction:
"For hardware compression please contact your vendor."

However one NB manual says:
"NetBackup tries to turn on hardware compression on all tape drives that support
compression. To disable compression, create a file named
install_path\NetBackup\Volmgr\NO_COMPRESSION. If this file exists,
NetBackup disables hardware compression for all tape drives that it uses. "

Then I suppose it's on by default. Well, thanks for responses anyway.

You can pull full drive status with L&TT (http://www.hp.com/support/tapetools) and run the "support ticket" function then "extract device data" followed by "view support ticket". Inside the ticket is lots of fun data including whether compression has been turned on by the application.
