How to know if the driver need cleaning?
It seems the auto cleaning function does not work.

Maybe there has not been any need for cleaning yet.
I assume you use some kind of backup software. For. ex. Data Protector can be configured for " Dirty drive detection" and automatic cleaning. There is also a test procedure for the cleaning.
I belive other backup software has similar features.
Some librarys can also be configured to handle cleaning internal but, a such configuration may cause conflicts with the software.

but only for cleaning tapes monitoring, I think is to expensive :))

What is the result of the diagnostic test?
Normal Drive Cleaning is mentioned in some of the more professional Backup programs. (Arcserve for example)
It is also mentioned within Systems Insight Manger.

U can use the command view ESL to manage ur library.
