I/O Timeout on Tape Drives

Is it possible to permanently change the I/O
timeout of a tape device? If so...how?

Hello Ron,

Yes, it could be changed depending on the type of drive and so on. The question is: Why would you ? Is there a specific reason for this change ?

If you are experiencing problems of some kind, changing the timeout values might break more that it would fix and..in the end...would only mask the problem rather istead of eliminating the root cause.

My approach would be to address the problem you are experiencing here in the group or with HP support.

Maybe you could post some details ?

Many I/O issues can be worked around in software. For example, in Omniback we can retry several failed operations (like a tape rewind) in case i/o errors or time outs cause us problems.

Certainly some errors are fatal, and workarounds are not an option.

So my question to you is...what problem are you trying to fix?
Omniback and NT problems? double check name resolution, DNS/HOSTS...
