IBM Tape Library Compatability

I think I already know the answer to this question (no chance!) but I am always prepared to let somebody prove me wrong so my question is this : We have just decommissioned an older IBM J50 server which had an IBM 7337 model 360 tape library attached (previously 'driven' by the IBM 'tapeutil' utility).

What are the chances of taking the IBM library, hooking it up to an HP 9000 server and getting it working with omniback or something ? : )

Any opinions (sarcastice or otherwise) gratefully recieved !

You would be blazing new ground, indeed.
The 9000 might be able to use it just like any other DLT Library, but it could come down to a driver issue.

The Vendor Matrix does not really show it, for Omniback, but you might get it to work.

Re: IBM Tape Library Compatability

I don't know what type of connection the Model 360 has (SCSI-something I hope). If you can make the connection, you should be able to use the "schgr" driver to run it, although unsupported, I have found it works pretty well for most IBM Libraries, tape units. Not always fully functional though. If you have a spare HP sitting around, I would recommend trying it out there before looking to any kind of permanent solution for it.
