Issues with Ultrium - 2 tapes that are being used in a MSL 6000 library

Hi All,

We are facing some issues with Ultrium - 2 tapes that are being used in a MSL 6000 library. Many a times there are occasions where in a tape even while formatting is shown as good, but while a backup job picks up this tape, it's marked as poor and the entire data is marked as poor. Hence all the successful backup jobs that have used this tape will be marked failed. This is happening from the past 1 week. Even after we reset the media, back to good, we are not sure that the data from the tape can be recovered. Sometimes the tapes with protection on them are shown as "BLANK" tapes.

Is there something that can fix this issue permanently?

We are using Data Protector 5.1 on a Windows cell manager.

Hi,

As we have this library connected to the SAN, the library will be busy for most of the time. Sometimes, the backups seem to go fine, but sometime it seems to get hung and will not release the license, hence affecting other backups.

Hope cleaning might resolve this issue.Will give it a try and reply back.

did u get fail backup session and after unload the tape back to slot, the colour turn red???

Hi Pavan,

I believe the required data might not be sufficient, as we do not know how many times the tapes been used, how long since you have been facing the issue....etc. If there was a Firmware upgrade/downgrade recently and what that would be. Many a factors intrude the normal operation.
