Keeps ejecting when inserted

First time for this problem, whenever a cartridge is inserted it keeps ejecting, tried different tapes, same thing, no errors at all, just ejects. Any ideas?

Make certain you're using Compaq approved tapes , if so , and problem continues , replace the tape drive .

I know this is very different because of the loading mechanisms, but I had something very like this with a DAT drive. After a lot of hair pulling it turned out to be a sticky eject button on the front of the drive! The tape would load, rewind, and then eject. It initially appeared as though something very odd was happening as often the tape would be loaded prior to people leaving the building for the night, so nobody actually saw what was happening. It appeared as though the backup job had run, but the logs reported that it had failed. It only became apparent later that the tape always rejected after, say 15 minutes, and then it was almost by chance that we found out the button was sticking.
