LTO-2 Drive Only Backing up 300gb, used to backup more (upto 400gb)
Hello,
At the new place I have just started at they have a server with an HP StorageWorks Ultrium 448 200/400GB Rackmount Tape Drive which takes LTO-2 tapes. Now the data on the server to be backed up is 350GB.
Whenever I try to do a full backup it will only backup 300gb on one tape then it will ask me for another to complete the backup. Its as if the compression has got lower. Whenever I try to do a backup of 300gb the backup works fine.
Apparently the backup used to backup 350gb to one tape.
Should i be able to backup up 350GB to an LTO-2 tape? Hope this is possible as I dont want to be buying more LTO-2 tapes so each nightly backup has to have 2 tapes and needing someone to wait till the backup on one tape is finished before the next is put in.
How long should 350gb take to back up?

Re: LTO-2 Drive Only Backing up 300gb, used to backup more (upto 400gb)
HI Leon
I agree that LTO @ tapes can backup data upto 400 GB but not all data can be compressed from 400GB to 200 GB for more reference please look at the compression table below
CAD 3:8:1
Spreadsheet/word processing 2:5:1
Typical file/print server 2:0:1
Lotus Notes databases 1:6:1
Microsoft Exchange/SQL Server databases 1:4:1
Oracle/SAP databases 1:2:1
