Following up: I was able to install the firmware via Windows (BootCamp on Mac laptop). After that, I was able to access the drive and format a tape with LTFS on my Mac. All good now.

I'm afraid i interrupted the update, but cant start the firmware update again, I only have an file ending with ".E"
