LTO-6 tapes failing
Hi
We run a full backup once a day using a library of 5 tapes (1 for each day) and recently we have had 2 of these tapes fail. We have only had them for just over a year. Does this sound normal?
Before this we had LTO-5 tapes for 6 years and not a single one ever failed!
Thanks

Re: LTO-6 tapes failing
Hi
There are very less chances a media would fail, how do you confirm the media has failed ?
There are thousands of tests being performed on the media before its out in the market. I would suggest you perform the media assesment test using Library and tape tools (L&TT) and check the results.
Keep the medias in closed environment without exposing to any humidity and dust as this leads to damage the tape drive and media.

Re: LTO-6 tapes failing
Hi
Thanks for your reply.
We discovered that it was most likely our tape drive that was failing rather than the tapes as it has completely died this morning. We are now waiting for a replacement so hopefully that one will have less of a failure rate.
