My question is simple if you have an LTO1 drive can you use (read/write) LTO2 tapes?

Re: LTO drive compatibility with LTO2 tapes

Hi,

An additional point. If you do insert a LTO2 tape into an LTO1 drive the drive will load and then eject the cartridge and the media error led will light to indicate that this cartridge is not valid for this drive.

Re: LTO drive compatibility with LTO2 tapes

can I expand the question - if you have an existing LTO estate what are the implications for ading LTO2 drives and media to the equation - my S/390 (IBM - sorry) background tells me that management of such a mixed config is not simple - can anyone expand on the implications ?
