LTO2 in HP6060 tape library using Backup exce 9.1

I amusing LT0 2 tapes in a HP6060 tape library with 460 tape drive, when I do a backup of 270GB and look at the stats on the tape it says that I only have 500mb available space left, I thought that I would get up to 400GB, aslo when it goes beyond 275GB it goes into a queue state. I may not have compression set right, I cannot format the tape it is not avaibable on the software.

Yes, in theory you can get UP TO 400GB. But the compression ratio 2:1 is always described as 'up to', hence depending on your actual data it may be significantly less than that.

On thing I did notice is on the tape library, compression for the hardware is Off and when I go in throught the web browser for the tape libary it will not save the compression to ON.

Nope.

You may have a look at the whitepaper about some experiments with different tape drives / data sets leading do different compression figures. As this is a document created by some other folks than HP, then I won't post the direct link.

Just type "LTO Data Compression" in Google & follow the 1st link (it should be described as MS Word doc, but in fact it's pdf)

I would say the compression is on anyway - you are definitely getting more than native capacity now.
