Many thanks Guys,

Re: LTO5 Tape Drives

Check out the quick specs.

The LTO5 models probably differ when fitting them into an MSL unit.

Re: LTO5 Tape Drives

That may explain the internal units but how about the external?

I`ve had a look at the quick specs and as far as I can tell they are identical barring size.

I must be missing something, any pointers?

Re: LTO5 Tape Drives

The full height drives are a heavier duty unit for applications where the drives are going to be heavily used. In the case of Fibre Channel drives the FH drive also has two host ports instead of just one on the HH.

The FH drives have a more sophisticated loader mechanism with more sensors and margin so they are nice for use in tape libraries where there will be a lot of load cycles. The HH drives have more packed into a smaller space so they run a bit hotter.
