Library drive's busy
It seems that the tape is embedded fisically. What can i do?

If the checkout of the drive still failse, it might be that the tape is actually stuck in the drive. In that case, you'll have to call HP to fix the problem (or open the drive and library yourself).

mt -t /dev/rmt/Xm offl
Then use mc to remove the tape:
mc -p /dev/device_file_for_your_robot -s D## -d S##
D## is your drive number (i.e. D1) and S## is the slot to mve the tape to.
If this fails, open the library and remove the tape manually. Press the button on the drive to "eject" the tape and move the lever (if there is one) to remove tape.

You can do what the other guys have suggested. This should fix the problem this time. To assist you further (so the problem hopefully doesn't happen again) please give the following information:
Backup software?
Model and brand of the tape library?
operating system being used?
It is attached to a brocade switch or directly attached via SCSI to the host?
