Library drive's busy

Hi, i have a lybrary with 28 slots, One drive is busy with a tape inside and i want that it is empty. I try to clean drives, i try to empty drives from admin panel, but nothing to do!
It seems that the tape is embedded fisically. What can i do?
Thanks

Re: Library drive's busy

Point a web browser to you library and perform an inventory check

Re: Library drive's busy

Power off your library and power it on again of course.

If the checkout of the drive still failse, it might be that the tape is actually stuck in the drive. In that case, you'll have to call HP to fix the problem (or open the drive and library yourself).

Re: Library drive's busy

Try plugging out the drive. There should be a mechanism for manually releasing the tape.

Re: Library drive's busy

I would first try taking the drive offline via mt first:

mt -t /dev/rmt/Xm offl

Then use mc to remove the tape:

mc -p /dev/device_file_for_your_robot -s D## -d S##

D## is your drive number (i.e. D1) and S## is the slot to mve the tape to.

If this fails, open the library and remove the tape manually. Press the button on the drive to "eject" the tape and move the lever (if there is one) to remove tape.

Re: Library drive's busy

Hi,

You can do what the other guys have suggested. This should fix the problem this time. To assist you further (so the problem hopefully doesn't happen again) please give the following information:

Backup software?
Model and brand of the tape library?
operating system being used?
It is attached to a brocade switch or directly attached via SCSI to the host?

Cheers
