Linux QFA Mode with HP LTO

Im using a LTO-Drive from DELL (Vendor: HP Modell: Ultrium 1-SCSI Rev: E21V) at a Linux System

Without QFA (dump ...) the speed is 5 MB/s - OK
With QFA (dump -Q ...) the speed is 60 kb/s !

What is the correspodendig HP-Drive name?
Can I use new Firmware from HP?
What can I do to normalize the speed?

Thanks Thomas

Re: Linux QFA Mode with HP LTO

Hi Thomas,

If you need help debugging performance issues you an try the HP following guide. It makes use of several tools that also run on Linux.

Try link:

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/support_doc/lpg50460.html#N1094E

see end of guide for links to tools.

Now to answer you specific questions:

1. The HP equivalent product to the Dell variant you have is the ultrium 230 external drive or the ultrium 230 internal drive depending on whether your Dell product is an internal or external product.
2. Yes, you could use new firmware from HP, for the ultrium 230, however, I expect you would void any Dell warranty you may have if you do so. You would need to check with Dell. Obviously, this drive is not covered by HP warranty since it is a "Dell product"
3. I am not familar with QFA. The troubleshooting guide we hopefully help you identify where the problem lies.

Cheers,

Dave Dewar.
