ML350 Gen9 Running ESXI 5.5 U2 - Tape - VM Boot Hangs

I just wanted to see if anyone has come across this before going through HP Support

There is the Configuraration

HP ML350 Gen9 Server, running a HP SmartArray H240 card which has a StorEver/Ultrium 1760 LTO-4 Tape Drive.

All is supported per the HP Spec sheets.

ESXI 5.5 U2 is installed with the HP Customized ISO

Issue,

Whenever I add the Tape drive to a virtal machine, the virtual machine will not post

It just hangs at the VMware Logo, this is in either BIOS or EFI mode under the VM settings

Now what I have seem to have found is that the newer driver bundles for this card seems to casue the issue.

so if I use the following verions it will cause the virtual machine to hang at boot

5.5.0.106-1

5.5.0.84-1

But it seems that running  and older version works, and so far this is what we had to do is go back to the older verion

The version that works is 5.5.0.74-1

this might work but it's not supported by VMware

check in VMware what is supported as direct attach to VM guests

you should talk to VMware support not HP.
