MSA20 and LTO Ultrium 4 1X8 Changer

I need to use both of these devices on my Storage server. Apparently I cannot use the MSA with the LSI card that came with my server for the tape changer.

Can I use a Smart Array 6402/128 Controller with the tape changer and get to the MSA20 through that care? I assume that I can.

I do not have room for another expansion card since my P800 is also installed.

The autoloader needs to connect to a "plain" SCSI card, the MSA20 needs to connect to a smartarray controller.

Hope this helps!

That's a shame. The changer can't work off the smart card at all? Hmm...

Check with http://www.hp.com/go/ebs but I think this will not work. Most likely you can see the tape only, but not the changer.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the responses. The LSI controller can see the MSA and reports it at boot, but I have no way to talk to it inside of Windows that I can see.

The MSA20 *must* be connected to the 640x controller.

Hope this helps!

Normally the autoloaders require to be connected to a controller with lun scanning feature available. This is because the first drive and robot share the same SCSI ID but different LUN ID (default settings). So a smart array card is really not a good option.

For list of HBA's compatible with the server visit ::
www.hp.com/go/connect

To verify if the same HBA is compatible with the backup environment refer to ::

Well, that kinda sucks... The tape drive will not work with the 64XX controller at all?
