MSL 4048/SCSI and AIX 5.3

Hi, i have a MSL 4048 Library connected to IBM server with AIX 5.3.

How can I manipulate the robot with AIX 5.3?

Ur using any backup software in Ur system (AIX 5.3).

Because CLI mode is very critical manipulate the robotic arm, best way U using (IBM Tivoli Storage Manager or HP Data Protector) software.

No, im not using Data Protector or Tivoli, i need to know,

if can i use the robot without data protector or tivoli software?

Hi Muro,

U can control robotic arm by IBM AIX 5.3, but U can not take any backup.

Do you know where i can find some papers about this?

Then, i cant use my library without a DP or Tivoli?

I need use the library and robot, but i dont have DP,symantec NB,TSM :(

Hello Muro,

Why U need use a tape library, because U take file system & database (RMAN) backup. Without any backup software how U use tape library.

with the msl 4048 in sequential mode all ok

its work for me, the robot move the tape in mode sequential, 1,2,3,4...48.

if you want try move the robot with aix, you will need mtx and generic scsi driver(GSC).
