MSL 4048 Tape Library - very slow performance

Hi,

One of our customer place have MSL 4048 Tape library. It is fiber based, connected to san switch. The problem is, since they are not using barcode labels, it is taking long time for scanning. Moreover, every time it is automatically doing scanning process and by chance if we give scanning of tapes from Data protector, it scan some tapes and fails with the error changer busy or restart library.

can somebody suggest a solution for this

That library is designed to work with barcodes and it is supposed to function without barcodes but will be far from optimized and will be slow. Customers with a library that size need to be using barcodes.

I can't tell much about the DP issue reported without more details.

Hi Cherish,

Using barcodes would be the best solution. You can even create & print your own barcodes if you dont want to buy. So many websites offering free barcode creation & printing. Data protector will give this error when you run a barcode scan through DP while the library is busy performing some other operation.

If you do choose to print your own barcodes please be aware that the barcodes must meet strict format criteria so if the library can't read some that you printed you need to try again with a different barcode. HP barcodes will always comply to the format requirements and the library will read them.
