MSL 5026 Event viewer Errors - no backups

Hello,

i need help with this problem.
We have a DL380R3 connect via scsi cable to a MSL5026SL RM 1 and every night the backup stops with this error in the event viewer:
TLD(0) drive 1 (device 0) is being DOWNED, status: Unable to open drive

TLD(0) [1788] cannot open \\.\Changer0 (bus 0, target 0, lun 0): The requested resource is in use.

TLD(0) [4788] timed out after waiting 305 seconds for ready, drive 1

TLD(0) [2592] timed out after waiting 305 seconds for ready, drive 1

TLD(0) [1788] cannot open \\.\Changer0 (bus 0, target 0, lun 0): The requested resource is in use.

TLD(0) [4316] Could not get current path from PnP name \\?\scsi#changer&ven_compaq&prod_msl5000_series&rev_0520#4&1ac36206&0&000#{53f56310-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}, using existing path \\.\Changer0

TLD(0) [4316] cannot open \\.\Changer0 (bus 0, target 0, lun 0): The requested resource is in use.

TLD(0) [4336] timed out after waiting 305 seconds for ready, drive 1

Open error on Drive0 (device 0, \\.\Tape0): The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. Drive may be busy.

I change the SDLT and update the firmware to the MSL but errors persist.

I made some tests with the LLT and all the tests passed except the DRIVE Device analysis that passed with this warning:

This drive has logged more than 5 'Error A503' Events, there is a library/Autoloader problem report by the drive.

The S.O on the server is Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition.

This is urgent any help is welcome.

Re: MSL 5026 Event viewer Errors - no backups

From the error is seems that the robotic controller is not accessible because another process is using it.
Be sure you have only one backup application running at one time (check in the services for any previouly installed backup application that may have some task active) be sure you stopped the Removable Storage Manager (RSM) if your backup application do not require it.

Thanks for your reply Marino.

Now the MSL report to the event viewer
this error.

TLD(0) drive 1 (device 0) is being DOWNED, status: Unable to open drive

Re: MSL 5026 Event viewer Errors - no backups

run the Library & Tape Tool (L&TT) to check if you can detect the robotic controller and all the drives. L&TT info can be obtained from :

http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/ltt/index.html

Re: MSL 5026 Event viewer Errors - no backups

I made the tests with LTT and now he report this warning:

This drive has logged more than 5 'Error A503' Events, there is a library/Autoloader problem report by the drive.

Re: MSL 5026 Event viewer Errors - no backups

A503 is a servo error on the drive.

You may have a defective SDLT drive, or damaged tapes.

I would suggest to remove the tapes that have failed and check with new tapes if the problem still occurs, eventualy it is time to call HP in order to check if you have a damaged drive

Re: MSL 5026 Event viewer Errors - no backups

The SDLT is new and the tests don├В┬┤t report any defective tape.

It├В┬┤s a possibity that the drive is DOA but the MSL make the backups, the msl only fails and put the drive down when the msl try to write the catalogue.

Thks for everithing Marino

Re: MSL 5026 Event viewer Errors - no backups

Did you run the Tape Edge Damaged (TED) test? on the tapes?

Yes and the test passed.
All the tests passed except the drive device analysis that report that warning.
