MSL 6030 Backup Fails, Hardware Errors
Hi All,
I'm having loads of difficulty getting a sucessful backup on this new system I've just installed.
System Details
HP DL360 G5 Server 1x Dualcore xeon processor 1Gb Ram, Pci Express SCSI 320 HBA
Windows 2003 Enterprise SP1, all updates
MSL 6030 with 1x Ultrium 960 SCSI
Backup Exec 11D updated fully, robotic library installed etc.
The software detects the devices, can read media and erase, inventory etc. but when i try to do any backup job it fails with an unknown hardware error after it has done approx 2mins of the job.
the following is logged in the job log

Final error: 0xe00084ed - A hardware error occurred.
Final error category: Backup Device Errors

no errors are logged in the system event log
I have tried with both the latest HP and Symantec drivers for the tape device but no change. SCSI card drivers updated and LTT ran on devices to update to latest F/W. LTT tests the drives fine.
The most i have managed to get on to a tape so far is 1.2Gb i'm trying to get 1Tb on to it from about 12 servers so not much luck.
Thanks in advance
Giles

Re: MSL 6030 Backup Fails, Hardware Errors
In order for Veritas to work properly, it must use it's own drivers, get the latests from here.
x86, 64bits
http://support.veritas.com/docs/286764
x86, 32 bits
http://support.veritas.com/docs/286763
Also please make sure you disable RSM, there is a TUR function running which can cause those backups to fail even though it's disabled.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/842411/en-us
You mentioned the tests ran succesfully, which ones did you ran? Go ahead and ran the LTO drive assessment test, and attach the support ticket and ResultLog and Eventlog. So we can take a look at them.

Re: MSL 6030 Backup Fails, Hardware Errors
Have resolved this issue, it seems the short SCSI cable supplied with the drive is faulty, In fact the repklacement supplied by HP is also faulty
