MSL Library .bin files decoding

Hi,

do you know if it's possible to decode the .bin files available on the MSL LIbraries to read them offline ?

Thanks,

Mike

Re: MSL Library .bin files decoding

It maybe better to use LTT and pull the support ticket data.

http://www.hp.com/support/tapetools

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: MSL Library .bin files decoding

Not sure I could use that. I'm not connected directly to the system and so that I asked to get the .bin files out of the library.

In case there's no other way, could try to get them decoded by the Web GUI.

Thanks !

Re: MSL Library .bin files decoding

LTT does this, pulling the binary data from the library and the drives and decode it.
I'm not aware of any tool that decodes the raw bin data pulled from the web or serial connection.

It's a MSL 6000 series, right?

The other series (2024, 4048, 8096) can create the support ticket without LTT via web frontend and you are able to store it on your PC or directly on an usb stick.

Hope this helps!

Re: MSL Library .bin files decoding

Hi,

yes this is an MSL6030 library.

Not sure if the available decoded files in the drop down menu are including all the .bin listed on the bottom part (attached a snapshot of the GUI)

Still not clear to me the reason for giving you the .bin files if you cannot decode them :-)

Thanks !

Re: MSL Library .bin files decoding

The preferred diagnostic tool from HP is LTT, other companies are probably using different tools.

What's the problem with this box?

Hope this helps!

Re: MSL Library .bin files decoding

I see,
well the initial problem is that once in a while the uma commands do not succeed. Kind of the tape remains stuck in the drive.
We ran the diagnostics but nothing was found, we got a couple of Door open alarms but on different timeframe (by the way I've seen quite a few of the recent shipments for MSL6030 with the door locks extremely loose).

We would like to verify if those logs could provide more information. At this point we will install LTT on the server connected to the library to get more out of the library itlself.

Thanks a lot for your prompt response !

Re: MSL Library .bin files decoding

As you probably know this library is not only sold by HP; does this picture look similar?

http://www.pressebox.de/attachment/178248/neo4000e.jpg

That's why I talked about different companies and different tools.

;-)

An open door will stop operation (picker movement); I hope the support ticket data will give you more details.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: MSL Library .bin files decoding

Oh, now I understand your comment :-)

More or less that's the box, would say that maybe that's corresponding to an MSL6060 given the bigger size.

Will install the sW and let you know, thanks a lot for the hint !

Cheers,

Mike
