I have a new MSL4048 2 head LTO-4 1840 tape drive and need to connect the SCSI cables on the back - how do I do it?

It's all in the manual but it never hurts to put a note here in case somebody else runs across it.

Parallel SCSI can seem confusing but it's not as bad as it looks. Which connector of the two connectors on the drive connects to what doesn't matter. Just get the terminator connected to one connector and the cable to the HBA connected to the other connector.

This does not seem to work, we have plugged it in and the tape drive operates at 2mb/min and after 2gb being backed up then requests a new tape.

You said that it was a 2 drive MSL4048. Do you have a 2 port HBA in the host with two cables coming from the host to the drives?

The proper cabling is that every SCSI connector on the back of the library has to be used. For each drive there are two connectors. One of the connectors has to go to an HBA and the other needs a terminator. In your config that would mean two cables to the host and two terminators.

There is a method called 'daisy-chaining' where more than one drive can be connected to an HBA but I don't recommend doing that.
