MSL4048 G3 SAS, one drive much slower than the other?
Hi,
I'm wondering if any of you guys have had the same issue as me.
I have the following setup:
1x DL360 backup server
2x D2600 disk arrays connected with SAS
1x MSL 4048 G3 with 2 LTO5 drives also connected with SAS
Im running 2 backup jobs from disk to tape, same filetypes (large .bak files) at the same time.
One of the drives run at about 40MB/s the other around 120-130MB/s constantly.
The drives are using the same SAS controller in the physical server and pulling files from the disk arrays.
Im doing this with Veeam and it reports the target (tape library) as the bottleneck.
The drives are running same firmware and drivers.
Its always the same drive that is slow, I've also tried running backup to that drive alone, but it still has poor performance.
Does anyone have any ideas/input to what the issue could be?
Thanks.
P.S. this thread has been moved from Tape Backup (Small and Medium Business) to Tape Libraries and Drives. - Hp Forum Moderator

Swap the drives and look if the issue moves with the drive.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

That was a good idea, could i just swap the SAS cables our should i swap the drives in the library?
And it will probably change SCSI ID when i do this, right?

Re: MSL4048 G3 SAS, one drive much slower than the other?
All settings are bound to the drive slot, not to the drive itself. Just swap the drives, leave the cables in place.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: MSL4048 G3 SAS, one drive much slower than the other?
I will try swapping the drives a little later today, I cant stop our daily backup processes to do this, so i will have to wait until they are done.
If that doesnt give any results, i will try the LTT
I will let you know.
