MSL4048 setup for Linux

Hi,

According to Data Protector 5.5 Support Matrix, MSL4048 tape library is supported on Linux media agent.

Could anyone point me to any library setup OS-level instructions for Linux?

Thanks and points in advance for sharing your experience!

Re: MSL4048 setup for Linux

I haven't personally set any of them up but we have quite a few of the 4048's on Linux. I've never heard any comments about setup being anything unusual.

SCSI support has to be built into Linux.

LUN scanning has to be enabled on the HBA.

After that DP should fine the tape library just like any other.

Is there a specific problem you are having or just researching before connecting everything?

Re: MSL4048 setup for Linux

Thanks to my local HP support, the problem is fixed.

1. Enable LUN scanning on SCSI card (some SCSI cards have the option disabled in their BIOS).

2. Use kernel >= 2.6.13 with modules "ch" for robotics and "st" for tape drive. "lsscsi" should show you drives and robotics in their output.

2. Install Disk and Media Agent remotely and run "Autoconfigure devices" from GUI "Devices and Media context". Omniback should see devices.
