I found the user guide for MSL4048 tape library.

It's telling me to run the wellness test.

Has anybody runned this test ???

I would install LTT from http://www.hp.com/service/tapetools and run an assessment test, pull a serviceticket. But this could be a mechanical problem = broken hardware.

ara there any error code? normaly if there are any hardware issue are usually related with an error code on the ocp.
if not so, you must instal the L&TT and generate the support ticket and put it here for analyse it.

I'd try removing the magazines (and tape drives if needed) and search for obstructions inside the library.

If you can get us the Error Code displayed on the OCP of the library that would be great :)

That error means that the robot assembly was outside the expected range after a move was requested. Most of the time a recalibrate will fix that and it doesn't mean there is any hardware problem but the magazines should be pulled and checked for all the tapes properly inserted and easy to pick/place tapes in the slot. Usually it's some temporary resistance that causes the robot to not move to the expected location.

The wellness test will run a calibrate and then check all the worst case slots to make certain the library has full range of motion. If you don't run the wellness test the library automatically runs a new calibrate when the next move command comes in and likely will complete the next move.

The drive assessment test doesn't tell us anything interesting as this error is not related to a drive problem.
