MSL5000 drive replacement

I have an MSL5000, more precisely a MSL5030. I have removed a sdlt drive from the unit and replaced it with a ultrium 1 loader drive.
I cannot get the loader to communicate with the drive although I have proved that both loader and drive are ok.
I think I might need a service code to force a settings override? The two should be compatible it just seems settings need to be changed.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Re: MSL5000 drive replacement

Matt,

Upgrade the firmware of both the drive and library to the latest version.

It might be that your current library firmware does not support Ultrium drives yet.

Re: MSL5000 drive replacement

Hi,
????
MSL with sdlt drives is 5026, with Ultrium drives is 5030. Magasines is different. I don't belive mixing drives/magasines will work.

Re: MSL5000 drive replacement

Kurt,

Thanks for the reply.
The old drive was faulty so I can't put it back in. With the ultrium drive in I'm unable to perform a f/w upgrade using l&tt as it won't communicate and is unable to read any data from the library

regards

Re: MSL5000 drive replacement

Leif is right - the MSL5026 and MSL5030 ARE NOT interchangeable. One takes SDLT drives and cartridges and the other Ultrium. You can't change flavors of tape drives without changing out the whole library.
