I did the dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/ntape/tape1c command

I have also zero'ed the tape before backups last night and it worked fine.
I will wait till we get the unattended full backups during the weekend and post my last summary.

I used
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/ntape/tapexc where x is the tape drive number
