I used for years my MSL5026 attached to a Tru64 cluster and I was used to use the MRU ROBOT utility to move cartridges up and down using command line (and cron of course!)
#robot move slot 10 drive 0
Now I attached the same MSL5026 to a new HP DL585 G2 running SLES 10 (which is a supported OS) and I can't any more move cartridges from command line (nor cron of course!)
This is a real pity because I'm not any more able to make automatic (cron) night time backups.
The only way I know to manage the MSL5026 from linux is by means of "hp StorageWorks library and tape tools (ltt)" but it doesn't help for unattended backups since ltt is interactive.
I think it's really strange that a very nice HP tape library can't be fully managed from an HP server running an HP supported O.S. !
Can anybody help me?
Thank you very much from Italy,
Emanuele

Hi Emanuele,
Take a look at mtx http://www.novell.com/products/linuxpackages/suselinux/mtx.html
I know the webpage above mentions DDS libraries, however a bit of Googling around seems to suggest that this will also handle the MSL libraries.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Rob

Re: MSL5026 linux (suse) utility for moving cartridges?
As Rob suggested mtx is the command I was looking for.
mtx is easily downloadable using SLES online update and it works very well.
thank you Rob!
